My Dad Called Me Fat...

True story.  My dad said that 1. I shouldn't be wearing maternity jeans anymore and 2. I "need to do something to get rid of that baby weight".  And he's right.  Don't give me that "it took 9 months to put it on so it takes just as long {if not longer} to take it off" bullcrap.  I can name PLENTY of friends {both IRL and blogger} that dropped their baby weight in 3 months and some were even skinner {bitches}.
Here I am approximately 12 weeks postpartum...

not.happy.about.it.
Sure I'd LOVE to workout.  Last Friday on my way to work I listened to my workout playlist and was SO pumped that I wanted to turn the car around and head to the gym {first time that's happened in  A LONG time}. Sadly I had to go to work and drown my sorrows in a cup of banana walnut oatmeal.
The thing is...I HAVE NO TIME.  No time to go to the gym.  No time to do 30 Day Shred. No time {or money} to cook those deliciously healthy meals.  NO TIME.  By the time KP goes down for the night I am just having a glass of wine eating dinner and go to bed shortly after.
So I guess I'll just go join some pro-ana support group and call it a fat girl day.

  1. I feel for you, and so understand where you're coming from. I feel like there is no time--and I'm a stay at home mom! Life gets absorbed so quickly when the baby comes. I'm very interested in the Couch to 5K program. Have you heard of that? I'm not sure how much time in required but you may look into that and see if it could fit in somehow. Best of luck to you...I think you're great!

  2. Working fulltime and graduate school leaves me with zero time for the gym. I recently downloaded a calorie counter to my phone and it helps a lot! I lost 3 pounds the first week just by keeping within 1200 cals. I love love love a good glass of wine but at the end of the day its hard to justify those calories. Good luck!

  3. I hear ya! I have NO time with my two and I'm exhausted. Parker is 4 mos old and I am not anywhere near where I want to be. Nothing fits and it's gross (as you know and we've discussed). You're gorgeous anyway! love ya.

  4. Aw,that was not very kind of your Dad. I so understand the "no time" issue and I don't even have a little one! It is a common challenge for busy working families.

I always believe in "baby steps". You had to adopt a TOTALLY new set of routines when that pretty baby girl came in your life. Talk about life overhaul over night! Maybe you can just pick one thing and focus only on working that one thing into your new routine for a while -- like walking for 15 minutes 3 days a week. You pick your days and no guilt if you can't do it one day! Or something like 30 minutes twice a week to research tricks on making affordable but healthy meals.

You're a new mom, you're overwhelmed! Just baby-step it a little a time and you'll find that you have a new routine before too long that helps YOU.

And tell you Dad he needs to take some tact lessons! I love Dads, but geez. Thanks Pop. :-)

  5. I too have no time and I have a 12 month old. I have started counting calories using livestrong.com. It tells you based on your current weight and how much you want to lose, how many calories you should eat in a day. In 6 weeks I've lost almost 10 lbs. I need to start tightening up so I'm going to do situps and squats on my lunch. Where I sit (although I share an office) I can privately do these. Since these are exercises that don't cause me to sweat I can do them at work and I know every little bit helps. If I do this everyday on lunch for a few minutes, I should be able to see some results and then just try try try to squeeze in some time for a brisk walk or a DVD at home. Good luck to you!!!!

  6. The moms that lose weight super-quick are probably also the ones that breastfeed, or who just had freakishly high metabolisms to begin with. So if neither of those apply to you then I think it makes sense it would take longer to lose the weight, so don't be hard on yourself!!!

I totally understand about not having time - I haven't even had my baby yet and I still feel like I don't have time, so I have absolutely no clue how working out is going to even happen when she's here. I like the idea of working in a few longer walks when you can - if little miss KP enjoys stroller rides maybe that can at least get you out and about a few times a week.

And uhm, if my dad ever said those things to me I'm pretty sure he'd get slapped! Yikes!

  7. Omg...if my dad said that I'd die. And I dont think you look fat at all. Really. I still have a pouchy belly. AND OMG my thighs.

    Sigh.

I'm home too--and stlil have a hard time "finding"/wanting to find the time.

I kind of hate working out.

  8. I SUCK. I am 2 1/2 years out and still can't get to my pre-baby weight. :( :( :(

  9. I completely understand. I'm still 10 lbs. up from my pre-pregnancy weight and Abbey is over 10 months old. Now that I'm pregnant with #2, it doesn't look like I'll be losing those last 10 lbs. anytime soon. I hate my body right now.

  10. Oh how I hear you. By time I work all day, get home, cook, clean, deal with the kids, etc... even if I DO have time after the kids are in bed, there are a dozen things I'd rather do than work out...and most of them involve sitting on the couch and taking an actual break.

Now words of advice, just some empathy!

  12. For me, I noticed the weight start to come off 4m PP. Not Fast, but it was gradually noticeable. I'm still workin' on it :)
Crank up that play-list of yours and start small. Some crunches, girlie push-ups or squats- whatever! I try to do them if she's playing quietly or I'll stick her in a sling/carrier and lunge a few times haha. Don't get me wrong- These are some ideas... things that I've 'tried'... and trying to find the time is A LOT harder.
You can do it! (and you will- if you want, not b/c someone else said so!)

  13. Don't be discouraged .... I know, it is so hard. You look great, I think, for whatever that is worth for being 3 months postpartum. It takes a long time to recover both inside your body and outside your body .... so, 2 kids later, yes, the "9 month on, 9 months off" is NOT because you are lazy and don't want to ... We all WANT to work out and be at the gym all the time...it's the lack of time and frankly, putting our kids FIRST because they are FIRST (i.e. your previous blog about being a Mommy)...the priorities completely start to shift. Anyone who has had a child knows this. HANG IN THERE! :0) I promise it'll be okay. You and KP are beautiful.

  14. don't get down. :) it takes a whole year for your body to recover. you will find a way to get down again...

  15. Ok girl- first of all boo dad!! I'm sure he loves you and just wants to encourage you though..Secondly, just tell yourself what I'm telling myself- enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas and come Springtime you'll walk off that extra weight with baby girl ;) Thirdly, I am breastfeeding and it definitely helps with weightloss..of course after my nightly wine ritual I have to "dump" Lastly, I think you look fab and KP is just gorgeous :)

  16. OMG! your dad shouldn't say things like that to you! I was lucky that my wieght came off fast...and then I started doing the 30 day shred. however...I just went back to work today and am trying to figure out when I will have the time to keep doing it. The last thing I want to do when I finally get to see my baby after a long day at work is gonna be work out...

  17. Girl! Dont put so much pressure on yourself. I can't find a second to do anything either. It'll come off when it comes off. That's what I say. Who gives a shit, right? We've got healthy babies to show for our little extra pouches. And believe me, I still look 3 months pregnant too.

  18. I'm sure if you can find the time you'll be able to lose the weight. Maybe you can set a time in the day that you can go?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh no he didn't?????? I would KILL him. But seriously I know where you are coming from on the working on thing! The last thing I want to do after a long day at work and after putting L to bed is work out. I have a million other things that take priority over the gym. At the end of the day you gotta do whats best for YOU and if it's not going to work out, then its not. There is plenty of time down the road for that!
