Prepping for House Guests

Do you guys realize that in ONE WEEK I'm going to be picking up this lady and her little dude from the airport?  I am shitting myself over here {figuratively, obviously}.
Thanks to the 4th of July holiday I'm officially off track as far as what day it is. I have spent the past 2 days making lists, buying snacks and cleaning my house frantically, only to realize I still have a week and I'm going to be doing this all again NEXT Thursday.
At least cleaning is like therapy for me.
Jimmy has his own list of things that need to be done before she and Smithy-poo come.

All I can say is THANK GOD we still have a week because his list is pretty intense, right?  I mean cleaning the bathrooms never looked so appealing.
Good think I did the spare bedroom makeover a month ago!
A few weeks ago I had posted that I was painting one of our guest baths.  Why you ask?  Well...it had been sitting with a patch in the wall for well over a year now.  Jimmy "slipped and fell" and his knee knocked a hole in the wall and we'd been living with a big, white patch in the middle of our mocha brown wall for far too long.  Leave it to an upcoming house guest, our first house guest, to light a fire under our asses and get it taken care of, finally!  Viola!

Can we just say how amazing it is that you can take a paint chip in to Home Depot and they can match the color spot on?  I mean that's just spectacular.
Now that Kendall won't be the only one using her bathroom, it needed some sprucing up too!  When we moved in the one thing I hated about the house, really the only thing, were the glass, slider doors on the shower.  White hot hated them. Have you tried to bathe a baby with those things in the way? OUCH!  Again, leave it to first time house guests to finally get me to do something about it and VIOLA!  Instant improvement.

I had already gone with a bugs n' butterflies theme for her bathroom and when I saw this shower curtain on One Kings Lane I knew it would be perfect.  Hit up Tar-jey for the fun hooks and we've got an adorable {and cheap!} makeover!  I just love how bright and fun this bathroom is! I picked up a hot pink and lemon yellow towel set and OMG cuteness overload. I may start showering in there now {again}.
Kristen keeps telling me, "don't do this stuff for me!  I don't care!"  But the truth of the matter is these are all things that NEEDED to be done for a LONG time but we just needed an extra push to get them done.
Now do you think we could manage a master bedroom makeover in less than a week?  Doubtful!

Be The Change

Thanks to The Bully Project for sponsoring my writing. Visit their website to join the movement and learn more.

Bullying is no joke. I think it's fair to say at some point all of us have been subject to it. Whether it was in grade school or high school or even online, bullying is mean and completely unacceptable no matter what the outlet.
I was never bullied in school, per se, but I do remember one thing, from 6th grade, that sticks out like a sore thumb. I was always an average sized kid, never went through the skinny, lanky stage and never really went through the "baby fat" stage either, I was just normal. But, I remember being in the cafeteria in 6th grade and someone {I think a boy} said I had chubby arms.  Rude much?!  Since that day I have always hated my arms. I don't do cap sleeve tops for that very reason and even when I look at my wedding photos I see chubby arms.  I hate that since the 6th grade I have felt bad about this part of my body all because some smart-assed boy said so.
And while I wasn't pushed into a locker, given a swirlie, or pushed to the ground I was verbally bullied and that's just as bad.  Sure I didn't come home with bruises, torn clothes, or wet hair but I did come home with a hurt heart.  Bruises fade and clothes can be mended but words never go away, they stay with you {& me} forever.  You can't unsay something.
I remember recently watching Live! With Kelly and she talked about a project going on at her children's school where the teacher gave each kid a blank piece of perfectly white paper.  She told them to tear it, crumple it up, throw it on the ground, spit on it and then asked them to smooth it back out the way it was when it was given to them.  It was impossible.  That paper was forever damaged.
Once bullying has been done, you can't undo it.  You can't put someone back to the way they were before they were teased or pushed down or punched, that changes them forever.
I watched the trailer for Bully this afternoon and all I can say is WOW!  If you haven't had the opportunity to see it yet please watch this.

Pretty moving, right?
I mean what kind of world are we living in that our children are afraid to go to school?  Or can't get a seat on the school bus without being tormented?  What kind of world let's an 11-year-old commit suicide because they were too afraid to take action against bullying?  Pretty sad and sick if you ask me.
I will be damned if I let Kendall grow up in a world where this kind of behavior is acceptable, where parents cries fall on deaf ears, where, "they're just kids" is an excuse for bullying.
I want her to know nothing but love.  The great thing about having a newborn/infant/toddler is your ability to protect them from this type of ugliness.  Right now, all Kendall knows is love and acceptance and I wish I could keep it that way.  But I am a realist and I know that one day she will go to school and she will be faced with the reality of the world, or will she?
Maybe by the time Kendall goes to school the parents of Tyler Long will be heard, loud and clear, and this will stop.  Maybe in 4 years there will be more severe repercussions for negative behavior.  Maybe.  In the meantime take your sons and daughters to see this movie, talk to them about bullying, encourage your schools to play this movie and BE THE CHANGE.

Presents For Everyone- Including Myself

Thanks to Walgreens for underwriting this post. I was paid as a member of the Clever Girls Collective, but the content is all mine. Visit http://www.walgreens.com/beauty.

OK so you all have seen my Christmas wishlist, right?  If not there's still time to take a gander and buy me something pretty.  But there's one thing I didn't touch on, stocking stuffers.  If you took a look at my guest post on Lindsey's 12 Days of Christmas series, you would know that stocking stuffers are just as important as the real deal in my family {hello hidden Tiffany earrings}.
So this week stocking stuffers are my goal, got to get them done!
That's where Walgreens comes in.
For the lil one{s} in your life
If your child is anything like mine, he/she LOVES to brusha brusha brusha {bonus points to the first person that can name that movie}.  That's why Kendall will be getting some of this in her stocking this year.
And, because we only have 2 sets of toddler silverware {believe it or not} she's getting more of my favorite toddler friendly utensils.

For that special man in your life
My husband isn't much of a product man BUT he does love him some Axe body wash so you better believe that while I'm in control I'm going to buy a not too awful scent {that stuff can be over powering}.
{That's actually the scent he buys and it's really not that bad.}
He's also in desperate need of a new beard trimmer.  Jimmy doesn't shave with a razor, he's always got a 5 o'clock shadow, and that's the way I like him.  This would be perfect for him.
And my brother-in-law wanted this picture for Christmas
So we sent it to the Walgreen's pharmacy and surprisingly the quality was really good!  And we were able to pick up a frame there, that's what I call one stop shopping!!
And for the lady in your life aka ME!
Listen up ladies, did you know they now sell "high end" brands like Frederic Fekkai?  It's true.
And something I JUST found out they sell? ESSIE!!!  As in the nail polish.  As in my FAVORITE nail polish {sorry OPI}.
BTW, isn't that color gorg?  Must run out NOW!
And I've blogged about this before but my love for Ivory soap has not changed.  I love it.  The best, cleanest, freshest scent out there.  I buy the body wash but the bar is just as good {for Jimmy}.

And you know what the best thing about Walgreens is, for me?  There's one in my tiny country town!  I know, right?  I mean all we have is McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King, Subway AND Walgreen's.  Needless to say we love it there.

So what are your favorite stocking stuffers?  Do you get real gifts in them too?  Have you tried that Essie color!?

Let's Talk Makeup

Thanks to L'Oreal for sponsoring my post about my favorite beauty looks, tips and tricks! Check out Makeup.com for beauty advice from the experts.
When I did my Q&A post I got a couple questions asking about my daily makeup routine and it took me a while but I've finally got pictures and products to show you.
As you are aware, or maybe not, I sell Avon. The funny thing is, I had have even tried Avon before I started selling it.  That doesn't make for a very good saleswoman, now does it? Now I have yet to make any money from this little venture because I have been so busy buying up one of everything but I'm so glad I have.  My new makeup is great and, best of all, it lasts!
I start the day with the Get a Tint moisturizer {if you haven't tried tinted moisturizer you are missing out BIG time}, Please Hold primer {for the eyes}, and Primed for Perfection {for the face}.  Primer is key to making your makeup last!
And here we are all moisturized and primed {thank God for makeup, right?}
For my face I use Ideal Shade concealer stick {under the eyes and on blemishes}, Ideal Shade loose powder {foundation}, Smooth Minerals blucsh, and I polish it all off with Smooth Minerals Radiant Veil in rose.
And we're making progress
Now for the eyes.  This is my every day eye look, sometimes I do a little darker for evening but it pretty much  is this with a little more eyeliner.
I use the Mark eyeshadow in Sugar Sugar on my brow bone, Fairy Dust on my lid, and Corset in the crease. I use {and am IN LOVE with} the Glimmersticks liqui-glide eyeliner in black.  It's a pencil but goes on like a liquid!  It's the best and I will never use another liner, EVER.  This stuff is still on when I wake up in the morning.  Mascara is Supershock in black.  Another liner I've come to like is The Body Shop.  It's not the greatest but when I wear brown liner theirs is the only shade of brown that looks right on me.  I also use my shu uemura eye lash curler when I'm feeling fancy.
And the finished product is

So there you have it!  A nice, easy, natural, every-day look brought to you by me, Avon and L'Oreal!  Speaking of L'Oreal, before I was 100% Avon Maybelline was my go to.  I have I don't know how many of their eye shadow trios dating WAY back to high school {some of them}.
Do you have any favorite products?  Do you have the same boring routine every day or do you mix it up from day to day?
