Maybe I'm Crazy

Call me crazy but...
  • I, unlike every other toddler mom, am not looking forward to the big girl room transition.  Kendall loves her bed, like she lays in it for a good 30 minutes when she gets up, and she sleeps great in it.  She's still flailing all over the place, I put her down on one side of the bed and she wakes up on the other.  I want to savor the crib. It's like it's the last bit of baby we have left, well that and the binky.  I just know that when we make the transition my good sleeper is going to get a taste of freedom and it's going to be o-v-e-r-.  So yeah, my kid will be 3 and in a crib, if I have any say in it.  That doesn't mean I'm not excited to do a big girl room makeover, that I am looking forward to.
  • I'm praying for a rainy day today.  I love hot, long, summer days but this weekend has officially kicked my ass and I just want a day of nothingness, indoors.  Well, maybe the rain could hold off till after I go grocery shopping, that'd be nice.
  • I've been going makeup-less a lot lately and I love it.  That's one amazing thing about summer, a tan!  I can lather on some moisturizer and call it a day and that's exactly what I've been doing. Yesterday I put on makeup for the first time in, I think, 4 days and it was like "OW! OW! Who is this lady looking back at me?!" I think Jimmy's reaction was the same.
  • I listen to music depending on the weather. I've always said I wish there was a radio station that's playlist was based on the forecast.  Like on a hot sunny day I want to hear nothing but upbeat, loud, dancey, fun  music but on a cold, winter day?  I want something a little slower, more mellow, acoustic preferably.
  • I think "good" coffee tastes like an ashtray. And, no, I haven't actually licked an ashtray but it tastes the way an ashtray smells, how's that?  Even with an absurd amount of creamer I can't get past it.  I'll take cheap ole Folgers please.
  • Even after working so hard to get my body {somewhat} back I'm more self-conscious than I was when my body looked worse. Like, I can't really explain it, it's weird.  I know I've come a long way and I feel good, for the most part, but I can't help but feel like I am a mom now and still shouldn't be wearing a bikini. Like I said, it's weird and hard to explain.
  • I wish "Small Potatoes" and "Choo-Choo Soul" were their own shows.  They come on for 2.5 seconds in between Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Jake but man they make me {and Kendall smile}, especially Choo-Choo Soul.  I wonder though, would I like them as much if they were a full 22 minute episode?
  • I cannot stand that it gets light out so early now.  Hate it.  It's not just because I'm a SAHM now and the sun wakes me up at 6 am, not at all.  I hated it when I worked too, I preferred driving to work in the dark. On that note, I hate the sound of birds chirping in the morning too.  White, hot, hate.
So, yeah, I'm weird, maybe.

  1. I am a little obsessed with Small Potatoes. Potatoes with a british accent?? How can it be any better than that?! I would watch it if it was a real show!

I am SO with you on the crib thing. G thinks our big bed is for wrestling. I can only imagine what he will do in his own big bed. I'm hoping we have a year left in that crib!

  2. Michael was quite happy in his crib and I left him in it for a while after he turned 3, I just took the side off of it. Now he's in a toddler bed and luckily it was an easy transition!

I downloaded the Choo Choo Soul music for M, he dances to it!

  3. Good idea for the radio station!!! I have never thought of that! Choo Choo Soul is awesome, I agree! It comes on a DVD and CD that's pretty entertaining...!

  5. I hardley ever wear make-up. I go weeks without it if we don't have special plans. Without fail, when I put it on, Alex goes "Wow, you look great!" which then makes me feel like I look like crap every other day! Haha.

  6. There is nothing like a good, relaxing rainy day. I often hope for those too...especially if I'm feeling the itch to play hooky from work.

  7. Love you and this post Shan!! And for the record, rock the bikini! I am starting that ab challenge today.. back on the bandwagon with MFP and I am gonna get it done! I am taking a break from Crossfit to just concentrate on diet and cardio and then I will go back when I hit my goal. Keep me honest on MFP!! :-)

  8. Totally agree with the radio stations...and my daughter was in her crib until she was a little over 3. Make it last as long as possible! We can't keep her in her big girl bed. UGHH

And while I love choo-choo soul I think I would want to punch DC in the face if I had to watch him for 22 minutes...

  12. I love the summer tan/sans make up.. I always feel so much lighter! Just a little bronzer, some blush and mascara and I'm good to go! ;) We're clearly coffee soulmates- M brews Starbucks for him every morning and then cleans the pot, brewing Folgers breakfast blend for me. 13. I'm so glad I found someone else who thinks some coffee taste like ashtray! I have said that to my husband before and he thought I was crazy! I am also holding on to the crib of my 2 year old little girl haha

  14. I have a 16 month old and her daycare keeps telling me that now is the time to do the transition but I'm in the same boat as you. SM loves her crib, stays in there for almost 30 minutes after waking just to play and talk to herself, and my goodness is she a squirmer. I'm not quite sure how the transition is going to go, let alone when it will happen. haha.

  15. Ugh I hate the birds in the morning too. I really like when it gets dark earlier and stays dark later. And, I'm way over the heat, too. Then again, I'm not the biggest fan of summer. I think I'm a minority, though lol

  16. You can totally rock a bikini! Be confident :)

  17. Shaun the Sheep was always my favorite! It was only ever on for like 3 minutes in between shows but I always waited for it when I would babysit my newphew. I think I was more excited than he was!

  18. No no no. There is no touch of excitement for me when it comes to the toddler room/bed--ONLY the decorating part. That is IT. In fact, Declan and I talk daily about how we're gonna get her into her big girl bed because we kind of HAVE TO (b/c shes not interested right now and loves her crib like whoa)....and also I'm worried about naptime, majorly.

Like, if naps end, my life is over. So trust me...it scares me too. :P

  19. I love the idea of no makeup too!!! I found this new Clinque moisturizer with SPF 40, basically that is all I do on the weekend. So nice.

The crib until 4! Haha! We had to move when he was dangerous crawling out, but I dreaded it. Now he is insane at bed time. DELAY... DELAY as long as she will let you.

  20. No way! I'm not at all interested in a big boy bed. My mom said I was in my crib well into my 3s and I'm hoping Monroe is the same way. In fact, we have another due in October and if he' hasn't climbed out by August, I'm buying a second crib. I figure, if I have a 3rd down the road, I'll use it again because I'm keeping these kiddos restrained as long as possible. And-M's crib can become a toddler bed if he decides to climb out the day his little sibling arrives. I am really excited about some big boy room decor though.

Also, I think you can find choo choo soul on kids on demand. You can string a few smippets together to get your fix!

  21. LOL. LOVE it. I like coffee that tastes like that too ;) Is that why we both love Starbucks so much? :)

  22. There is an app and a website that has tons of playlists where you can put anything in the search, like "rainy day" or "cleaning" or "happy" and it will find a ton of playlist for you. Sometimes it takes a bit to find just the right one but sometimes I find a great mix on the first try. It's called 8tracks or 8tracks.com

  23. you know I am right there with you on the big girl bed. e will be in her crib til high school if it keeps her sleeping the way she does now!

choo choo soul is a favorite around here. i'm a bit put off by the talking potatoes though. sorry :(

couldn't agree more about the radio stations. and coffee? i inhale Folgers like water. Give me that stuff any day over the other stuff.

  24. clearly, small potatoes and choo choo soul need a whole 30 minutes!!! why can't disney see this??

and carsyn will be in the crib until she learns her way out!

  25. Cassidy will 'do' small potatoes, walking around the house with a british accent, making up stories. It's hilarious.

I don't wear much makeup anyway, and in the summer it's pretty much just lip gloss and mascara.

Gabe slept in his crib until he was almost 4. He liked it. He slept every night. WHY MESS WITH A GOOD THING.

  26. I'm with ya on the bed thing. I'm ready for his room to look more "boy" and less baby but he's staying in the crib until he climbs out! We didn't know the gender so had a pretty low key nursery. It's been fun to spice it up a bit!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Elle will also be 3 in her crib too. Girl LOVES her bed :) and I don't see us messing that up anytime soon! My cousin's daughter slept in her crib until they moved into a new house when she was around 3 years and a couple months!

  28. Last summer I was so pissed off by the noisy birds that I kept threatening to get an owl and sit it outside to scare them off!

  29. I just found your blog and had to read back! It's great. Oh, and I LOVE small potatoes. It's so damn cute!
