A Mother's Day Story

Many of you know this but, I am an only child.  My mom always claims that the reason they never game me a sibling is because I was "so good" they didn't risk getting "a bad one".  I totally get it and honestly I never really wanted a sibling anyway.

Being an only child has it's good and bad qualities but one of the best things about it is the relationship I have with my mom.  I can't help but think that if I had a brother or sister our relationship wouldn't be what it is today and that relationship is one I wouldn't trade for the world.

For the past, I don't know, 7-8 years I have talked to my mom every morning.  I think the only time we have skipped our morning gossip session was when I was on my honeymoon or when we've been on family vacation with my in-laws.  We talk about anything from what was on TV last night to fitness stuff to family drama {come on, you know you have it too}.  She loves it and so do I.

I am lucky to call my mom my best friend.  She is the first one I go to for almost everything.  I know she will have an answer when I have one of those icky mom questions.  I know she will listen when I just need to vent.  And she's my biggest supporter in everything that I do.  Our relationship is one that I hope every girl experiences with her mom.

And I got lucky twice.  My mother-in-law is equally amazing. She is my right hand man when I am at my whits end.  She has always included me and made me feel welcome, from the first time we met.  She's the kindest person I know and sometimes I think she is an angel sent to live on earth.

My children are blessed to have these women in their lives.  I think they already know that though.  No matter which one, they are always thrilled whenever we spend time together.  From moms to Mimi and Gigi, they have embraced each season with joy and gratitude.  We are lucky to have them in our lives.

As I have become a mother there are qualities from both of them that I only hope to incorporate into the raising of my children.  I hope to be fun, spunky, a shoulder to cry on, like my mom.  I hope that Kendall and I are always as close as my  mom and I are.  I hope to have a giving heart, positive attitude and generosity, like my mother-in-law.  She has taught me that there is still good in the world.

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there!
