Meet Bear

This weekend we welcomed a new furry, four-legged member to our family.  A black lab puppy named Barret aka Bear aka Bear Bear aka the sweetest thing.

This day has been coming for about two years now.  Jimmy's wanted a black lab for his birthday and Christmas and I've been saying "nope" for the past two years.  James was a newborn, then he was just starting to walk so I felt like I had valid reasons for turning away a sweet puppy face. Oh and we already have two dogs.  Yeah, that too.

This year I really had no justification, other than already having the other two dogs.  Jimmy even got Kendall aboard the puppy train and saying "no" to her, "but mommy look at that sweet face, I can't even stand it!  That's it, we're getting him, today."  was nearly impossible.  Plus, I agree, that face #allthehearteyes.  And then Jimmy sent me a video of him romping around and, well, I just couldn't stand it anymore.  Cuteness overload.

I was going to use the "but I am not potty training a dog AND a toddler" excuse but, I couldn't because he's already potty and crate trained. He knows "sit", "stay", "don't" and "come".  He sleeps all night {hallelujah, amen}.  When Jimmy ran through his list of reasons why I should say "yes" I really had nothing left to argue my point, other than already having two dogs.

Chanel and Casey {the other two} have adjusted just fine to the newest addition. In fact, they don't even seem phased by his presence.  They are both older {9 and 11} and kind of just set in their lazy ways.  They sleep a lot, kind of mind their own business and just kind of go with the flow.  Introducing them really wasn't a big deal, at all.

The kids are obsessed.  Kendall looks after him as if he is her own personal puppy.  She feeds him, makes him mind her, and can't stop asking when he can sleep with her. She's my little dog lover.  James calls him 'Darth Vader' which I find completely hilarious.  My little Star Wars lover.  Bear has done great with the kids minus stealing their stuffed animals a few times.  He is Jimmy's BFF, follows him {closely} everywhere he goes and the feelings mutual.  Jimmy had a very hard time leaving for work this morning.

He has been such a great boy already.  He sleeps in his crate at night with minimal complaints.  He listens. He's so calm and mild mannered.  My mother-in-law {who already has 3 dogs of her own} commented that she'd never seen a puppy so mellow.  My father-in-law wanted to take him home.  My mom fell in love instantly.  He's really been great so far, I have no complaints.

All of the concerns I had before haven't even been an issue and he's really doing a good job showing me that we made the right choice by bringing him home.

  6. We adopted a dog and then a week later I found out I was pregnant. Thankfully she is well behaved and was already house broken and crate trained. Congrats on the new addition!
