Stuck In A Rut

So Kendall Paige isn't even here yet and I can already feel myself NOT wanting to go back to work. Some people tell me this is only the beginning and it will only get WORSE when she's here, others try to convince me that I'd be SO BORED staying home. I am here to tell you that the latter is NEVER going to happen, EVER. I can think of A MILLION things I would do with my little bundle of joy. From play dates, to arts & crafts, to visiting the grandparents at work, we could ALWAYS find something to do!
*knock knock* who's there? REALITY!
The reality is staying home is not an option, not yet anyway. It's just not the right time, financially, for me to quit my job. I WISH that weren't the case but sadly it is. Buying a new house and a new baby aren't going to help that either, only make it even harder.
I've been contemplating things I could do to make money while staying home with my baby girl. I'm not really crafty so selling items on Etsy is out of the question. I don't think I could handle babysitting while trying to learn how to be a first time mom. Every time I think of what I'd LOVE to do I come up blank because all I want to do, all I've ever wanted to do, is be a mom.
I'm really in a rut at my job. I don't like what I do. My company isn't what it used to be. It's not fun to go to anymore. I know, I know jobs aren't "fun", but I REALLY used to like mine, like a lot, but anymore it's just a job. I am having a really hard time staying motivated and I keep finding myself trying to come up with ways to make it work with me at home.
I keep picturing myself as one of those stay at home moms turned entrepreneur that they always have on Oprah {like the Airborne mom or the Jibbits mom}, but I don't see that being anymore realistic.
Did anyone else struggle with this? How did you make it work? Tips? Please!

  1. Awww girl I feel ya, I'm right there in the same boat with you. I am also due with ym first baby girl the end of august, and I cannot picture myself going back to work, so I have decided to go back only part time two days per week.... is that an option for you? I will be thinking and praying for you I know its a tough place to be in.

  2. I am in this very same situation. I loathe coming to work anymore. It just isn't the same work place anymore and I don't enjoy it. I am exploring other options, but it is slim pickings now. I hope you can find something that allows you to stay home when the baby comes.

  3. we just bit the bullet. It's REALLY hard but we make it work. I find free things to do w/Conner and I stay out of Target/Walmart unless I have to get something. I cook every single day, I don't get my hair done, no mani/pedi for me(unless I get a GC). I work out from home so no gym expense. You could always look into some work from home places. I'll email you.

  6. YES....had this fear my ENTIRE pregnancy, whenever I would blog about feeling down or stressed--it was 100% of the time about my fear of going back to work. Once you see their little face, you can't IMAGINE leaving them with anyone else....ever. Even though millions of parents do it all the time...I just couldn't. I cried MANY tears over it. In the end, I had to give it over to God because I just COULD NOT handle the stress of that on my own. It looks like its worked out for me to be able to take one full year off school and I'm so grateful. All I can say is, be creative...think outside the box...but don't stress too much. Stress isn't good for you or the baby. Ill be praying the best works out for you!

  8. What I've found, for the most part, is that moms are a very adaptable bunch. Almost none of them want to go back to work when that maternity leave is over, but once they do and manage to get back into their routine, they get to the point where they love working and having that life outside the house and no longer wish to be stay at home moms. Now the ones who do stay home (like me) get used to that, and can't imagine having to leave their little one. I guess it works out to the individual, and I'm sure it can and will change for a lot of people as the kids get older.

I think, you have to just do what you need to do, and your heart will tell you if it's the right thing for your family. If it's not, well then, you just change until you find the right thing. We're all just trying to figure it out because there is no one right answer, you know?

  9. I think if there's a will there's a way. Maybe you could talk to your company and do a work from home program? Go into the office every now and then and for certain meetings? I hope it works out for you!
