Firm Friday

Another week, another Firm Friday post.  I just know how much you all love hearing me go on and on and on and on and on about weight loss stuff {sarcastic blogger}.  So today there will be no pictures of my still flabby belly or talks of my weight in numbers, you're welcome.
Today is a more serious matter.  I'm thinking of giving up the wine.  Gah, the thought alone sends me into sweats and night shakes.  I have a box o'delicious in the fridge now but I fear it may be my last for a while.  I'm planning on giving up alcohol for at least 30 days once it's squeezed, with every ounce of life, dry.
I tend to carry my weight in my tummy, always have, even before KP I had a pouch.  I hear that alcohol prevents you from losing belly fat, and probably adds to it, so I'm hoping to see results pretty quickly.
It's no secret that I love my wine.  I drink it almost nightly {usually a glass or two, nothing crazy} and so giving it up is going to be a BIG adjustment for me.  It's just like my comfort, my night cap if you will.  But I know that if I see results it will be worth it.
Let's face it, Mama is headed to the beach for the first time post baby and I'll be damned if I'm wearing a tankini.  No way, not this mama, not this summer.  I will be that mom that everyone says, "DAYYYUUUUMMMM...SHE has a baby?".  Yeah, that'll be me ladies.
I think I can, I think I can.

  1. You can do it!!! I've gone dry and it does also help with water weight and sleeping...or it could be that I'm drinking more water when I give up the hooch.

You know you can HeyTell me from the drive thru liquor store and I'll talk you out of the line.

  2. You can totally do this. Even if you limit yourself to one glass a week it will change things drastically. I cut down my drinking to the point where I usually only have wine or a cocktail on a special occasion. I've always had a pooch too and it's the thing I'm working the hardest to get rid of!

  4. You are so right on with this...I gave up the booze for a month in college (I know right) and I can say it was worth it.

That was pre-toddler though, not sure what period in life it would be more difficult to give up. Hah. ;) Good luck!

  5. I used to drink a glass of wine or two every night too. It was just automatic: come home from work, pour wine, start cooking dinner, then drink more wine with tv shows. But I was trying to cut back calories so I gave it up for weekdays. It's really not as bad as it seems, it's just breaking the habit that's hard. And you can't keep it in the house or if you're anything like me you WILL cave and drink it. Also, eating out is tough when every body else is drinking, so I bend the rules and allow myself a Vodka Tonic in those situations.

Good luck! Definitely keep us posted as to how it turns out!

I couldn't do it. I could afford to cut back, but couldn't stop all together. I love my vino :)

  15. Know what else causes you to retain belly fat? Stress!!! Though the wine is totally empty calories, after a full day of working, cleaning, watching the tot, it has been a nice way to unwind and de-stress. Of course, if the belly fat is stressing you out, then you are really screwed :). There has to be a happy middle ground somewhere, though moderation has never been one of my strong suits (which is partly why I have belly fat!).

  16. I'm on a very similar journey right now! I lost my baby weight then an additional 45 lbs and I'm trying to get rid of the flabs now. Lately I've been drinking berry flavored seltzer in a wine glass at night and it (kind of) gets me through.
