Friday Brain Dump

TGIF y'all!  Hope this has been a great week for everyone.  We've been taking advantage of some of these warm temps we've been having {70*in February/March?  Yes, please!} which has left this lil ole blog feeling a tad bit neglected.  Ooops!  I think it's safe to say that blogging is definitely more active in the colder months because, well, there just isn't anything else to do, right?  The summer though?  You're at the park, swimming, going on long evening walks during sunset, having drinks with friends on an outdoor patio somewhere, just enjoying the sun on your skin.  No? Just me?  Poppycock!  I literally long for those long summer days.  The hotter the better, if you ask me.  I love waking up to the sun, being able to walk outside first thing in the morning barefoot, and the easiness of summer clothes.  Oh summer clothes {I've bought my fair share this week which has not helped my desire for warmer temps}.

Speaking of warmer temps, Kendall and I have discovered this 15 mile walking trial about 3 minutes from our house!  Seriously how did I never know this existed in my almost 2 years of living here?  It's paved and shaded {for the most part}which makes stroller rides super easy and it won't be too hot come summer.  So this week we've just been walking this trail but I have every intention of getting out there and running {oh remember that?}.

Running update is in order, I suppose.  Well, I have officially signed up for my first 5K!  I mean it took me long enough to commit, right?  It's on St.Patrick's Day and there is a big party immediately following, HOLLER!  Even better? Some of my Columbus bloggers are running it with me.  And even better than that? Jimmy is too!  The man hasn't run in at least 2 years, has bad knees, but decided he wanted to do this with me, how sweet?  Well he got on the treadmill for the first time last week and did a 31 minute 5K on his first try, bad knees and all!  Men!  It took me months to get there and he did it on his first shot!  Good for him!  But right now I'm hitting about a 28-29 minute 5K so we'll see if he can keep up ;-)

Kendall and I have finally gotten into our groove, I think.  AP wrote a post the other day about finding balance with all the hats we wear and I couldn't relate more.  I have decided in order to have some "me time" I need to get up before Kendall and do some of the things that make me happy.  That has meant I get up at 6, when Jimmy leaves, and I've been doing the 30 Day Shred.  I did The Shred right before my boudoir pics back in '09 and could tell a difference almost immediately, so I know it works, and thought it was just what I needed to get firm. So far, so good.  It actually wasn't as brutal as I had remembered it.  Sure it's hard but it's a 30 minute workout, you can hang for 30 minutes and beats putting in over an hour at the gym with the same results.  So I've been doing that, showering, doing my hair and makeup, all before getting Kendall out of bed and I cannot tell you what that has done for my motivation throughout the day.  I no longer struggle with the age old battle of what to do during nap time. I can actually clean or catch up on blogs or watch TV or fold clothes and not feel like I'm taking anything away from her.  It's really working out perfectly.

Speaking of Kendall's naps, we're definitely in a transition period. For the most part she's still on two naps a day but about 2 times a week she'll only take one.   I'm fine with either, really, but it just makes it kind of hard to plan our days outside of the house.  If she takes two naps she is usually down for the first one around 10ish, sleeps till noon, has breakfast and we go on our merry way.  But if she only takes one I don't realize it's going to be a one nap day until about 11 by that point it's too late to go anywhere without battling the dreaded car nap because she'll usually go down around 12 or 1.  Ahhh...the complaints of a SAHM.

Also, I want to send some love to some of the lovelies that have purchased Avon from me.  Seriously you guys rock my socks!  Every day I find a new reader has jumped on this beauty train and not only am I happy about the money comin' mah way but I'm so excited for you girls to try some of the things I love the most!  I am totally flattered that you think I know what I'm talking about and trust my reviews and recommendations enough to try the stuff yourselves.  So THANK YOU!

This weekend Kendall and I will be attending our first all girls slumber party {except we won't be staying all night because we have dogs} and I cannot wait!  My BFF has two little girls, 3 and 5, and there will be another little 4-year-old {who I adore} for Kendall to play with while I catch up with some friends.  I cannot wait to see this cuteness overload and hopefully there will be plenty of picture worthy moments for me to share.

  8. Goodness everyone is getting up early, before their kids. Maybe someday I'll do that too? That would require Simon to STOP getting up at 2:00 am and then at 5:30 am.

Anyhow, I'm SO glad it's working for you. I'm desperate to find some of this balance stuff everyone's talking about.

  9. I am finding more and more that I *must* get up before Lizzy if I want to keep my life balanced. But, I've also been having such a hard time doing it!

  10. Ugh. I am jealous of anyone who can really stick to the 30 Day Shred. I have yet to do it for 30 days without caving. I don't want to lose any weight, but I DO want to firm up before summer. I need to jump on that bandwagon.

I'm glad that you're finding a groove and making time for yourself without the guilt factor. Kudos and extra Awesome Mommy points there.
