Thursday Thoughts on Blogging

In case you think this is another "Wahh, wahh, wahh , I don't have anything to blog about" post I can assure you- it's not!
There are some things that I want to address, things that are on my mind, in reference to blogging.  Please read on.
  1. For the love of God!  Please, please, please, with a cherry on top, go into your account and attach an email to your profile.  I don't know how many times I {and other bloggers} have said and given tutorials on how to do this so for crying out loud, DEW it!  I mean I want to answer you when you say, "how did you make this collage" and when I take the time to do so only to hit send and see "no-reply blogger" it bums me out.  Big time.  So please change this so we can converse.  Please and thank you.
  2. In the same respect, please turn off word verification on your commenting.  I promise it'll get you more comments.  You see...that thing does nothing, really, for your blog.  It's not doing you any favors.  I have talked to several other bloggers who agree that they would leave a comment but then they see word verification and skip it. Womp womp.
  3. I love love love it when people post their blog post on Facebook or Twitter for the day.  Sometimes I don't have time to go through my reader but if I'm in there updating my social media and see yours, I may pop on over. So thanks for the reminder.
  4. Think we'll all be blogging in, say, 10 years? I've thought about this a lot lately and I'd like to say that I'll see the babies that were born at the same time as KP grow up and get their driver's license and such but I wonder how realistic that is?  You know?  I plan on blogging for as long as I love it and I hope others do too.
  5. Seems like everyone is in a bit of a blogging rut lately.  I blame the nice weather.  I know that's most likely the reason for my lack of actual content. I mean which would you rather do, sit inside and type on a bright screen or sit outside in the bright sun?  Right, I picked the latter too.
  6. I want to send a huge THANK YOU to everyone who participates in SWW week after week.  I mean we are going on two years of So What!ing and every week it gets bigger and bigger.  I love it.  I can't believe that after nearly 2 years there are still things to So What! but there's always something to bitch about, right?  So thank you for making this link up the success that it is.  So many times I've wanted to give it up altogether but it's because of YOU that I keep it going.  So, again, THANKS!
And off my soapbox I go.

  1. How cool would that be if we were all blogging in 10-15 years. Seeing all the babies Chloe's and KP's age getting their license and what not. That would be kind of funny...I'm sure by then we would have met all our bloggy girls IRL though. At least that's my goal.

  2. I totally agree - I hate no reply blogger comments! Word verification instantly makes me not want to post my comment. I've been feeling the rut too, I also blame the weather. It's hard when it's more fun being outside!

  3. Haha Shannon, I love reading your blog! You crack me up, soap box and all! I've started joining you for SWW and I'm absolutely loving it. It's my weekly bitch and it feels good. Ive wanted to join you since I found your blog back in Feb but got consumed in my Stop and Smell the Roses vlog on Wednesdays. I only convinced myself it was okay go be obnoxious and link up twice in one day last week. Haa! Either way, I heart you for hosting it, so please keep it up! :)

  4. I don't think the reality is that we will be blogging down the line--although that's hard for me to imagine. But think about your kid being in junior high, and some bully finding the blog, and then it all goes downhill from there. They can pull off baby pics from their most embarrassing moment or something and then plaster it all over school? I know that's extreme, but I took a grad class and it was about this very thing. It's about how in this day and age our "virtual footprint" starts a little after conception basically--when your mom posts that FIRST ultrasound picture. After that, it's all documented online, somehow, someway--basically forever. Kinda weird, scary and just...different than how we grew up!

Anyway. No idea what I'll do. :)

  5. Love. I would also like to encourage people to SIMPLIFY their layout. I hate having to wait 4 minutes to read something because of all the images that are being loaded. Love photos in posts, but let's keep the sides cleaner, shall we?

  7. Oh my gosh - #1 KILLS ME!!! I need to go see if I have word verification b/c I totally agree on that one, too, but #1 literally drives me insane.

I am very interested to see if I keep blogging as well ... I will do it as long as I love it and get something out of it,

  9. I agree with #3 to an extent...I do the same as you if a post is tweeted, but if it's tweeted a million and one times per day, I will unfollow you

  10. I think about blogging in the future too. I'd love to see a lot of these kids when they're grown up!

  11. No joke, I was just wondering today if we'd all still be blogging years from now. You know, when the kids are tired of us taking there photos, days are filled with teenage hormones and not postpartum madness. I will say, I hope I'm still blogging, documenting our story, learning from everyone each day. And I hope you are too!

  13. I think about that too, how many people will be blogging in say 10 years if we're still around here.

I hope I still do it that long but even in the 3 years I've done it, 85% of people I started with have dropped off.

And I don't know about blogging when they're all older. Man I'd love that though to see how these kids grow up!
