Show & Tell Monday

Happy Monday!  I hope everyone had a GREAT weekend.  Today I want to link up with the fah-bulous Becky {From Mrs. to Mama} for some show & tell.  Remember doing that in grade school?  I always sucked at it.  True story.  I never had anything good to show, let alone tell.
But today I do because today is all about weddings!   And, well, I'm married and I'm pretty sure that is the only requirement.  Count me in.  Plus with lots of new faces around I thought I'd show off some of my wedding ish {in case you missed it kinda thing}.  So, here goes.
1.  Are you married? If so when did you get married, and tell us about your special day. If not? How would you describe your dream wedding?
Status:  Married.  We were married October 3, 2009.  Wow that seems so long ago when I type it out, 2-0-0-9!  The day was gorgeous.  We were nervous picking an October date because you never know what kind of weather you're going to get AND our wedding was outside.  So yeah, nervous.  But?  I woke up to the sun shining and it was the perfect temperature. We hit the jackpot because THE DAY after our wedding it got cold for the rest of the year.
I wasn't nervous, at all.  My BFF/MOH kept saying, "how are you?  are you nervous?" and my answer was always, "No!".  I knew I was doing the best thing ever by marrying Jimmy.
We had so much fun getting ready, drinking some champs and Jimmy surprised me with roses in our dressing room.
I remember thinking I was going to bawl my eyes out when I was walking down the isle but I couldn't muster up a single tear. I was smiling from ear to ear and my eyes never left Jimmy's.  I'll forever remember that moment.
We didn't see each other all day, call us traditional, so when I got to the alter I was so happy and excited to see him that I kissed him right away.  Ooops!
We had a bag piper and I'm pretty sure there wasn't a dry eye in the crowd.  Loved that part so much.  It was so unexpected and something different and one thing Jimmy really wanted.  I'm so happy we did that.
The ceremony was short and sweet, just the way we wanted it.  It was pretty much perfect and I wouldn't change a single thing about it.  Even with all these amazing Pinterest ideas floating around out there.
2.  Show us some wedding pictures. Either yours or of some that you love.
Oops!  Guess I kinda already did that, huh?  Well here are my all-time favorites from our special day.
3.   How about the engagement? Tell us your story. If not engaged, what's your dream proposal?
He had planned on doing it the weekend before.  He doesn't know that I know that. We had gotten all dressed up, per his request, but then the restaurant "wasn't nice enough" so he got super bummed out and we just went home that night.  Sans ring.  The following weekend he took it up a notch.  We went to a very nice dinner, shared a bottle of wine and then went for a walk in the park.
It was October 3, 2008.  It was a gorgeous autumn evening.  There were strings of lights throughout the park and it was all very romantic.  We got to a quiet, secluded spot, and there, under the lights, he got down on one knee. All I could do in that moment was smile.  So big.  Yes! A million times, yes!
4.  Show us your wedding rings or an engagement photo! If not engaged/married ... show us your "dream" ring.
Bling Bling!
My engagement ring is a 3/4 carat, princess cut, solitaire in platinum setting.  My wedding band was my grandmothers and I love it more than anything.
5.  Tell us why you think marriage doesn't work out for so many? What can we do to make things last.
I think people give up too easy.  They see divorce as a way out.  For us, divorce is not an option.   I'm not saying there aren't serious reasons for divorce, there definitely are, but often times I think people just opt out instead of trying their damnedest.  It's hard to live with someone, day in and day out.  There are different opinions, emotions, and attitudes and some days downright suck. But the good days are so good, so so good.  And the good days totally outweigh the bad.
I think it's important to make each other a priority.  My mom once told me that you want to marry someone who, after 40 years and however many kids, you can still sit next to on the couch and talk to.  I think Jimmy is that somebody.

  3. This made me smile so much. Your wedding pictures are beautiful and your dress is amazing. One of my biggest fears is that I am going to bawl from the moment I see Carl to the end of our ceremony. Here's hoping I can at least find some good mascara!

  4. Beautiful wedding photos! I love your tid-bit at the end there! We are the same way - we're not just going to give up and throw in the towel when we have something so very good if it sucks every now and then.

  10. Y'all are precious! These pictures are amazing! You make such a sweet couple!

I like your last paragraph about divorce. I think its SO important to think of it as NOT AN OPTION. If you go in with that perspective, you've got no choice but to work through the good, bad and ugly!

I'll definitely be sitting next to Lance in 40 years!!!! Looking forward to it!

    Sweet post!
