31 Days...

I've seen plenty of girls linking up with The Nester for her 31 Days series and thought, "what is this all about?!".  So I set off to learn more about it and the concept is pretty easy, pick something to write about every day for the next 31 days.  I like that you can pick your own topic and really make this link-up your own.
I had already vowed to be a better wife to Jimmy this weekend.  I mean sure I tell him I love him every day and kiss him when he leaves and always say "be careful" as he heads out the door but do I show him?  Every single day?  Do I let him know just how much I love and appreciate all that he does for our family? Some days I'd say yes but some I'd say no.  I don't ever want to say no.
For me this "challenge" happened before I even knew it was a challenge err...writing prompt.  Friday night while Jimmy was finishing up The Avengers I decided to spend a little time in the kitchen.  I made some more pumpkin muffins and decided I was going to pack him a really excellent lunch for work the next day.  He's worked every Saturday since we've been home from vacation, poor guy, leaving him exhausted most days.  He used to always ask me to pack his lunch, when I worked, and my response was always, "you pack my lunch!".  Not nice.
You see, to him, packing his lunch is much more than that.  It makes his morning easier, less stressful.  It let's him know that I love him and care enough to do something so simple for him.  The best part is that since he packs his lunch first thing in the morning he sees it immediately and, in his words, it makes his whole day so much better because he started off on a positive note.  Something so small, that really takes no time at all, makes such a big impact on how his day is going to unfold.
So Friday night I didn't tell him I was doing it, I just did.  Most of what he takes needs to be refrigerated so I just put it all in the cool pantry drawer and then all he has to do in the morning is put it in his lunch box cooler.  I even included a little note, telling him I love him and appreciate all of the hard work he does, even when he doesn't want to.  I set the coffee pot for him and even set his mug out so all he had to do was enjoy the morning.  To say I scored mega wife points that morning would be an understatement.  The first thing he said to me that day was, "thanks for the bomb lunch!".  It was so simple but he was so thankful.
So from now on I'm packing him a good lunch every day. I think it's the least I can do for all that he does for us.
And thus concludes day one of this 31 day challenge.  So far it doesn't even seem like a challenge.  With this "prompt", I'm sure I will have days where I feel like I'm going to fail but the hope is that even when I don't feel like being a good wife I will be. It's really not that hard and it's almost embarrassing that I am not just a "good wife" all the time.  I mean we all have our days, right?  Here's to the next 30 days.
What can you vow to do/blog about for the next 31 days?  Link up with The Nester and share too!

  2. The packing of the lunch thing is definitely a "thing" around here. I know EXACTLY what you mean about it making their day better. I have totally dropped the ball on it lately and it shows. Our mornings are busy and stressful and chaotic. On Frday I also decided to change it so last night I made sure his lunch was packed before I headed to bed. Now, it's just a matter of reintegrating it into my evening routine.

  3. My husband loves when I make his lunch too. I always complain about it but really it's not hard and I'm just being a lazy brat. Thanks for calling me out on this. I'm going to work on it too.

  7. You're an awesome wife Shannon!! Ummm, my hubby rarely has anything to pack for lunch since Hank came along-he'd probably faint if I actually had his ready to go :)

  9. Good for you Shannon! If we're all being honest here, we are not the perfect wife or perfect ANYTHING every day of our lives. I'm sure we all could use a good little reminder/kick in the rear to be a good wife. And if we're really already good all the time? Then become GREAT. We all have room for improvement! Thanks for your heart and for sharing!

  11. I pack my hubby's lunch every night. If I skip a day I can tell he is disappointed because its one more thing for him to do in the morning before he leaves for work. And he is usually out of the house by 5 every morning so he is exhausted!

  12. This is such a cute idea. Although my husband and I have only been married for a little over 30 days this would be something we could benefit from. Thanks for sharing this and I may just have to give this a blog topic a shot. Thank you.

  15. Great idea! Jimmy is lucky to have you. I wish being a good "wifey" came naturally but it's something I need to work on too. My husband would LOVE to have a packed lunch ready every morning. Now I just need to be a better planner...
