Jingle Bell Rock Blog Hop: Decorations

Day 4= decor {see what I did right there?}.  Mandy is hosting today and you know she's got some amazing, fabulous ideas so make sure you head over there and link up {also enter our awesome giveaway!!!}.

Today, as a part of the Jingle Bell Rock Blog Hop, we are showing off our holiday decor!  Or should I say Christmas decor.  Jimmy hates using the word holiday and everything must say Christmas on it.  We don't do seasons greetings, happy holidays or Feliz Navidad.  It's Merry Christmas in The Dew House.

And, if that weren't strict enough, we are red and green {only!} decorators over here.  Jimmy is very traditional, what can I say.  But you know what?  I love it.  Each year I see all the bright, fun decorations in hot pinks and sparkle and tinsel and I think, hmm...that might be fun!  But, I'm too cheap to buy all new.  And once I start unpacking all of our traditional, rustic style decorations I'm quickly reminded how much I love it.  It's always been my go-to decorating style for Christmas.  There's just something about it that screams Christmas to me, always will.

Our stockings are mismatched but I kind of like them that way.  I got the ones for Jimmy & me from Target way back when, they match our tree skirt.  I am pretty much in love with them.  They're suede with little snow flake cut-outs and a tiny bit of fur around the top.  When KP came around I knew we wouldn't be able to get matching ones and when I ordered hers from Pottery Barn I contemplated ordering the whole family new ones.  I'm so glad I didn't.  I think they coordinate even if they don't "match".  At least she and Baby Dew #2 can have "matching" ones.

As for our tree, it's pretty much my favorite thing in the house right now.  Normally we get all Griswold and cut down our own tree but this year my grandma gave us an unopened, never used, fake one and I figured, what the heck.  I think it might be our prettiest tree to date.  Just the right size and fullness and it's prelit!  OMG I can't believe I've been missing out on all this prelit goodness!

The tree is where our "rustic" Christmas really shines. From our copper, star, tree topper to our old-fashioned ornaments {some hand made some store bought} this tree is everything I love about Christmas.  My plan for this year was to do a burlap garland around it {can you believe I've never done garland?} but I could never find it {not that I looked that hard} and so I thought of a better idea.

I used to love making paper chain links.  I know some people use them as a countdown to Christmas and rip one off each day, but I just wanted to make one for the tree.  In the past I've tried stringing popcorn for garland but now that we're in the country I'm too afraid of mice.  I thought that the paper garland would be fun for Kendall to join in on and while she did love helping with the glue she did not like it once it was time to put it on the tree.  But doesn't it look so pretty?

The rest of our house is full of more red and green.  From our dining room table you will see red and green plaid place mats with a red and green bell tree {quite possibly my favorite of all my decorations}.  A new addition to our decor is the giant snowman advent calendar, I think he's a nice added touch!

Then there is this little corner nook between my dining room and kitchen.  I never know how to decorate it, even for every day.  I am weird about things being balanced and it just always seems off.  Last Christmas I'm pretty sure I just left it as is and didn't even try to decorate it but this year I wanted to challenge myself, I guess.  I went back and forth over what should go on each shelf and did it look just right and I finally came up with a combination I think I like.  More red and green anyone?

I wish I could say I got more creative with my decor but the truth of the matter is I'm not very crafty, at all.  The paper garland is about as crafty as I get.  Oh and the random jar full of ornaments and candy canes, fancy huh?

Don't forget to link up with Mandy today.  She'll also have the Rafflecopter entries for our amazing giveaway.  I will be back on Monday with some gorgeous holiday looks that anyone can wear.  Also Kiki La'Rue just might have a little something something to add, in addition to our already awesome giveaway items!  I promise you won't want to miss this!
