2013: In One Word

These are all words I considered as my "theme" for 2013.  I've never picked a theme or word to describe my year before but I've seen a few other bloggers do it and it seemed to make more sense to me than picking one resolution {and, most likely, failing at it}.

I like the idea of a word to describe the year because you can apply it to various aspects of your life.  As oppose to saying "I'm going to lose 20 lbs" or "I want to have $XXX in savings" picking a word for the year could be applied to either or both of those.  See also: I'm indecisive.

So...I thought and thought and when I thought I had settled on a word I thought about how that word just wasn't it.  It wasn't perfect, it didn't apply to everything I already had in mind as far as goals go.

I looked at this list and it finally clicked.  The one thing all of these words had in common.  Think.

This year I will think.

I will think twice before I spend money carelessly.

I will think before I speak to avoid putting my foot in my mouth.

I will think about how my words and action affect Kendall.

I will think about things {like breastfeeding} and be more open to them with Baby Dew #2.

I will think positive thoughts.

I will think about how hard it was to take off the baby weight when I shovel ice cream into my pregnant face.

Just to name a few.

As a couple, Jimmy and I are notorious for jumping into things.  In fact contemplating if and when we wanted to bring Baby Dew #2 was the most consideration we've ever given one decision since we've been together. We are very "if it feels right then do it" kind of people and that's not always a bad thing {hey, it got us married} but sometimes it wouldn't hurt to think about our actions before acting on them.

I am not putting any concrete numbers or goals out there because I feel like once January passes those goals go out the window.  Instead I just want to focus on doing better and being better throughout the year by thinking.  It seems simple enough and I'm hoping that it will be simple.  I know some aspects will be easier than others and I know in my mind which of these I need to work on the most.

I think {hehe} 2013 will be a great year.

  1. 2013 will be such a great year...Can't wait to see baby dew grow. When is you apt? Dying to know how far along you are.

  2. I love choosing a theme for the year and just started last year as I saw other bloggers do it. I like the idea of an overarching attempt to live better or feel better about ourselves instead of trying to pinpoint a set number of things.
    Will be "thinking" about ya!

  3. Great idea! I'm no good at resolutions, this is much more realistic!

  4. Love this idea. I've never been a resolution kind of girl. But words? I like words. Great how "think" can be so applicable to so many relevant things. Good luck!

  5. Love this post and your THOUGHTS on the year! Love my Shan! ;)

  6. I randomly found your blog, and i honestly loved this entry and your state of mind about things!!! You have such a great point of view about this year...good luck with 2013!!!

  7. my thoughts exactly Shannon!! you just need to add "enjoy" to your list..I tried to tell myself every day to enjoy my pregnancy with hank because it was my last...Not trying to put words in your mouth!! Just thinking you're like me and "know" two is your number. And I failed..I just kept wishing away the weight gain and fatigue..soooo, not that you're asking for advice, but ENJOY being pregnant...enjoy that ice cream..enjoy those little moments KP lays her head on your belly...enjoy going to bed at 9:00 if you can..enjoy that first US!! You are a BEAUTIFUL person inside and out..I KNOW 2013 is going to be an AMAZING year for you and your family :))

  8. Since I wasn't reading when you had Kendall, I'm not sure if you breastfed or not, but being pregnant with number 2 myself, I'm also being more open, thinking about breastfeeding this baby. Can't wait to see what you decided, and read your thoughts on it. I'm sure you'll have posts about it. I'm already working on a post myself about my thoughts on it.
Good luck!! Think is a great word for 2013!

  9. I'm feeling good about 2013, hope it brings you and your fam many blessings!

  10. I love the way you embraced your theme/words for this year. I can already see that 2013 hold great things for your family!

  11. I think that's a great mantra for 2013! :)

  12. I'm definitely trying to think about money before I spend it!
