No News is No News

So I realized I kinda, sorta left you guys hanging on the doctor's appointment this week.  Sorry, friends.
Well the news is, there is no news.  Not really anyway.  This week was just my consultation.  Our practice does a consultation visit at about 8 weeks and then your first ultrasound around 10.  So this visit was a lot of questions and answers, information, what's new since I had my last baby, etc.

I was really hoping I could convince him to just shuffle me over to the ultrasound room for a sneak peek but no dice.  I explained my concerns, the possibility of being further along, the panic at the thought of having twins and he still said "no".  Well, not really but he informed me that the chances of me being further along are just as likely as the possibility that I'm not as far along.  Basically I'm probably exactly where I think I am, almost 9 weeks.  He said my odds for having twins are 1 in 90 and that did not make me feel any better.  Do those odds seem really high to anyone else?

He told me that things that typically happen around week 20 with the first pregnancy happen around week 9 in the second {and more}.  That did make me feel better.  Before I even addressed some of the aches & pains and other "symptoms" I've been having he assured me that all of those were completely normal to be having this early because it's my second pregnancy too.

He told me I looked great.  Told me to tell the "are you sure it's not twins?" people to shove it.  No really, he did.  He informed me of my options for VBAC or scheduled c-section and based on my labor/delivery with Kendall I will be doing a scheduled c-section again.  His words were "if the straw was too narrow the first time it's probably too narrow now", I can't make this up.

I am weighing in exactly the same as I did at my first appointment with Kendall.  I don't really care so much about that as long as the end number isn't anywhere close to what it was with her.  I told him my plan and he said that the first pregnancy teaches you how to handle subsequent ones and I could not agree more.  Although I've been trying to get in at least 3 workouts a week I know I could do better with my eating habits so I'm really trying to work on that.  Starting now.

All in all I do feel better after my visit.  I wish I had more answers but if there is one thing I am learning with this pregnancy it's patience.  So I will be patient and hopefully have a better update next Friday after my ultrasound.

  1. 1 in 90 does seem hight for twins.

I gained 50lbs the first time and I swore I wouldn't do that again. After eating healthy and exercising the weight just kept piling on and eventually I just gave up and I ended up gaining 60...F me! Luckily breasfeeding has helped it melt away but still 60 freaking pounds.

  3. Sounds like a great doctor! Although I'm sure you still wish he would have checked things out more to see how far along you are! Haha. Can't wait to hear more after the 17th!!!

  4. 1 in 90.... holy crap!

I was freaked about gaining weight this time around, because I gained 45lbs with my first, but I've accepted that I'm gonna be a tubbo and I'm trying to move on. It's still hard to accept though, because when I'm not pregnant 90% of my time is spent figuring out how to get skinny!

  7. I am so excited for you!! I loved when I got those first ultrasound pictures. Seriously those people who are asking you if it's twins should just get their heads out of their bums. Good luck on the eating habits...on my fourth child I sat down and ate a whole family sized bag of cool ranch Doritos...I told my doctor the baby REALLY wanted them. :).

  10. I have to admit, that does seem a little high in the whole gist and reality of things.

  11. Your doctor sounds just like mine! That is why I have no problems driving 2 hours to see him and look forward to each appointment for our chats. This next one will be interesting with my questions to say the least.

Also, glad to hear he discussed VBAC and didn't just go straight to scheduled RCS. Good to hear the medical community is shifting to supporting that option for women more and more.

    Take care!

  13. You sound like you have a great doctor! Sad that you have to wait for the ultrasound, but no one really wants a doctor that is a total pushover! Glad he seems on top of his game. Is this a different doctor from your one with KP?

  15. When I was pregnant with my first, I got HUGE!! Like, gained over 50 pounds! All my fault, because I ate like a college boy! But everywhere I went I had people asking if it was twins, basically having heart attacks when I said no and that it was my first. It made me feel like a horrible fat fatty!! I asked my dr about it, and he told me that people are super ignorant with pregnant women. Thinking they can say things about their size, and it's just rude!
Keep your chin up, you look amazing! You're growing a person, how incredible is that??
I had an emergency c section with my first, it was the worst thing I have ever been through. But with my second, this past September, I had a scheduled section and it was completely different! I was out of the hospital the second afternoon, and was going for short walks with the ok of my surgeon a week later. The second time seems so much easier!! Good luck with it all! I'm so excited for you!

  16. My second pregnancy was much different from my first. I also thought for sure I was farther along than they said. At 28 weeks I was measuring 33 weeks. I definitely looked and felt pregnant way sooner the second time. And I had A LOT more pain. I seriously felt everything, which my doctor also said was normal.

Can't wait for you to get your ultrasound. It's so nice to know everything is ok and see only one baby :)

  17. No matter what your size, people think it's ok to make comments. I am 26 weeks and have gained 13 lbs. Last week I got the "Oh you're looking big, and you still have 3 more months to go?!" Really?
Good for your OB to encourage you to reply, back off! You're looking great.

  18. I was just telling my sil that you didn't have an ultrasound and how I wouldn't be worrying like I am if I hadn't had one!

  19. I don't think you look like you're having twins. I think you look FANTASTIC! :) And I DO think everyone should shove it!

  20. Well sounds like your doctor provided some reassurance that it is normal for you to be where you are at so that is good news! I hope that you continue to feel great!
