Fit Pregnancy

Remember how I was determined to be fit this pregnancy?  Well...I've kind of been a slacker.  I've been pretty much eating anything I want and not exercising as much as I want.  I blame it on the first trimester.

I haven't really been craving anything and I think that's my biggest problem.  I don't crave one specific thing but EVERYthing sounds good.  Like randomly my brain is like "cinnamon toast!" and I'm like "well duh!" and I eat it. At 9 o'clock at night.  Then I'll be driving to the bank and McDonald's {which I normally boycott} screams "WE HAVE MILKSHAKES" and I'm like "mmmm...strawberry".  It's terrible.  Basically if something sounds good I eat it, no matter what time of day it is, no matter what I've already eaten for the day, no matter what the caloric intake is.

Failure.

I started this pregnancy at the same weight as when I was pregnant with Kendall.  It's higher than my goal weight and higher than what I'd hoped I'd start this pregnancy with. But, it is what it is.  As long as my end weight isn't the same as it was with Kendall, I gained 40 lbs with her, then I'll consider this pregnancy a success.

Plus, I will need to be in a bathing suit this summer, as Kendall LOVES the pool, and I'd prefer not to look gargantuan.  And I have high hopes of wearing a lot of my pre-pregnancy maxi dresses/skirts.  So, it's time I get this situation under control.  I let myself be out of control for the past 12{ish} weeks.

So, now that I'm officially in the 2nd trimester {I think}, I am starting to feel more energy.  I want to get on the treadmill again and I think my body wants to too.  My back has been really achy {already} lately and I think it's because of the lack of activity.  I got on the treadmill last night and walked for 45 minutes in hopes of helping.  Today, I must say, I feel a tad bit better but the night time will be the true test, that's when I'm the sorest.

But, I'm craving something more.  I miss yoga in my life.  Pre-babies I went to yoga every Saturday at the gym and I loved it, I lived for it.  I have a couple yoga DVDs but I tried one last week and there is far too much bending and hanging upside down for a pregnant lady so this is where you come in.  Do any of you have a great prenatal yoga DVD you can recommend?  There are so many on the market and of course there are mixed reviews with all of them.

Or any other suggestions as far as pregnancy workouts would be appreciated.  It needs to be something I can do at home, doesn't require a whole bunch of extra equipment, and is somewhat low impact.

Please and thank you.

  1. I recommend Denise Austin's Fit and Firm Pregnancy. It's only 15 or 20 minutes if I remember correctly. There are 2 workouts on the DVD and I remember one made me feel like like an idiot while I did it, but the other one was awesome. It's enough to make you feel like you worked out, but not enough that you even wonder if you overdid it. http://www.amazon.com/Denise-Austin-Fit-Firm-Pregnancy/dp/B000GB5M0Q/ref=as_li_tf_sw?linkCode=wsw&tag=bookblog03-20

  4. Girl, is food not the most delicious ever when you're pregnant? I love to eat regardless, but I can distinctly remember how much BETTER everything tasted when knocked up. I was a bad girl and gained 54 lbs with gav (hangs head in shame). And was sooo big I didn't even get maternity shots done (major life regret). But I think you should also enjoy being pregnant. It's only 9 (10) mo's and you know what to do to get your bod back in shape. That's 1/2 the battle. I have so many friends who have done the WW for prego ppl tracking and truly haven't enjoyed themself as much as they could have. I say enjoy as much as you can, and if you feel up to working out go for it. If not, all good too. Just keep those maternity shots in mind and you will be just fine :)

  5. I have 4 daughters.....I only regularly exercised with my last pregnancy. (I needed the "ME" time!) But, I can definitely say that it mad my labor and delivery CRAZY fast and easy! I walked on the treadmill, so nothing crazy, and even if it was only for 15 minutes, at least I felt better from moving around! I too had bck aches and walking really seemed to help. But don't worry, I also went ahead and enjoyed food as well...I agree that food is SO DARN DELISH while preggers...especially treats! :) Good luck, and definitely get a Yoga video. Yoga has become my newest obession and the benefits are CRAZY awesome! Wished I had done it while preggers. Plus all of the celebs do it, so it must be great! :)

  7. I can relate. You have such high hopes but then it's like the baby eats your brain. LOL.

I ended up gaining exactly the same with both girls...31 lbs on the dot. I still think you'll do better losing it after this baby though, because you have the tools and know what works. You'll be fine ;)

  9. I give you props for even getting on the treadmill as much as you have! I gained 37 lbs with Elena and would love to max at 30 with this little girl. Getting to the gym is laughable, so I'm eager to see the recommendations your readers have for good yoga DVD's. Hoping the second trimester allows me to accomplish a little something more than my own nap during the toddler's nap time!

  10. I have one I did, oh, once with Norah. It had modifications for each trimester which was nice, but I don't think it was necessarily "fit" yoga. more like "relax and focus on your baby" yoga. Eh.

  11. I used this prenatal yoga dvd when I was pregnant...http://www.amazon.com/Prenatal-Yoga-Shiva-Rea/dp/B0000BYNMH

Now, I will say, it is more along the lines of stretching and breathing. You won't feel like you did an intense yoga routine when you are done. And, if you do end up using this dvd, you will get a kick out of the horrendous unitards the pregnant ladies wear in it! I always got a good chuckle out of it :)

  12. Hey momma! email me your address and I'll send you a prenatal yoga dvd southernblondejen@gmail.com

And there's nothing wrong with being tired and hungry-You're pregnant and chasing a toddler. Honestly, I did not work out with Hank was much as with Carsyn and gained less weight.

  13. I ran before I had Elle and quit running when we were trying to get pregnant (I didn't have regular cycles) and then got pregnant and of course didn't take up running again. I swore after she was born I was going to get back into running shape and never did. Now 3 years later and baby Harry on the way I don't do a dang thing besides chase her around. And its pretty good exercise I think. She wears me out. Ha! But, for real going to get back into running shape after Harry is born. I am really looking forward to it!

  15. Hey there! New follower here, Holly sent me over. I'm a first time mom due in August. I have written similar posts to this one. I feel your pain sister. I wish I wanted something crazy, then I'd let myself have it and be DONE! Instead, I just eat everything, hoping something will satisfy which doesn't and then I feel crappy about it. ~sigh~

I am working out which helps me eat better. I know I won't watch what I eat if I don't. Looking forward to getting to know you!
