Star Wars Inspired Nursery

When I revealed Baby Dew #2's name this week I gave you a sneak peek into my vision for the nursery in doing so.  What you may or may not have known is that, thanks to my husbands obsession, the underlying theme of the room is going to be Star Wars.  Yes, it is.

When we found out we were pregnant Jimmy said to me, "if it's a boy I want a Star Wars room" and my visions of a Pinterest inspired, handsome, not too babyish, mix of plaids and stripes nursery went out the window.  I thought I was doomed.  I mean, how could I ever make a Star Wars nursery look cute?

Instantly I went to Pinterest and searched "Star Wars nursery", "Star Wars baby room", "Star Wars cute {God help me}" and while one nursery popped up time and time again {it was a little too much for my taste} I was able to get inspired enough to start thinking that this "theme" might actually work.

Once it was confirmed, we were having a boy, the first thing Jimmy did {once we left} was get online to start looking for nursery items.  I knew I had to act quick or else we'd end up with Yoda sheets and a Darth Vader head for a lamp.

We came home and I showed him some of my ideas for a "Subtle Star Wars" theme, more based around colors with hints of Star Wars thrown in. Thankfully, he was pleasantly surprised with my ideas and so I ran with it.

{the links to all items can be found on my Baby Dew #2 Pinterest board}

Now, I don't know the first thing about Star Wars.  Jimmy has tried to get me watch one or two or all of the movies at some point and every time, every time, I fall asleep.  BUT  I am surprised at how much I am loving this room so far.

We have ordered all of the prints for the walls and the mobile came yesterday.  I'm working on the bedding this week.  We're thinking of painting the cream-colored walls a shade of grey and all of the furniture will be black. I love the color scheme for this room and I think it will transition nicely into a big boy room one day.  But for now, we aren't thinking about a big boy room.

I can't wait to share the finished room but I have a feeling it'll be a while.  I mean, we're still working on the big girl room transition for Kendall so once we get that squared away we can work on the nursery.  First things first.

I have posted a few of these finds on Facebook and the response has all been positive.  A few of you even commented that your husbands would be jealous and that you didn't think it was possible to make a Star Wars theme actually cute.  I am here to tell you it's possible, you just have to do a little digging and get creative.  Sure Pottery Barn Kids has a Star Wars room but 1. it's way overpriced and 2. it's not very original as I'm sure anyone who has done a Star Wars room has used that stuff.

So, what do you think?  Any die-hard Star Wars fans out there want to share their expertise?  Am I making you proud?  I can't wait to hear what you think!

  3. When I told J about this it opened a while new can of worms in our house. He insists that if we have a boy the nursery be spaced theme. Oh lordy! I think you did a fabulous job with the star wars theme for a nursery. Not an easy task and it looks very baby and kid friendly. Go girl!!

  4. I was there in the theaters watching Star Wars when it first aired and loved it so I know how your hubby feels, and yes, you have hit a very good note with this room. It is chic and cute, subtle and adorable, but very Star Wars at the same time.
Also, I have seen Star Wars miniature bobble heads that look like children at Barns and Noble that would fit very nicely here if you are interested.

  7. Super cute! I've never seen Star Wars but I like your ideas!

I'm doing vintage bicycles in our little guys' room. I fell in love with the colors of the fabric and then just went with it. Ebay has a surprisingly amount of super cute super cheap home accessories if you're looking for things like lamps and chotchkeys!

(I'll add that boy CLOTHES are no fun but my boy's room has been a blast!!!!!)

  8. My son is four months and has a Star Wars themed nursery. We did plaid bedding in primary colors and framed star war quotes for the wall art. Target now has some star war stuffed animals so we got a Yoda and the bobble heads from Barnes and nobles are super cute! Glad we aren't the only Ones with a Star Wars nursery

  9. I think this is adorable! I'd much rather give in to the demands for a star wars themed nursery than actually sit through any of the movies lol.

  14. I'm not a die hard fan, buy I do love star wars. I think you did a great job! I'm still working on a theme - nursery won't be put together until after baby is here cause were going to be moving some time after. I need to come up with a co-ed idea since my son and the baby will be sharing a room (once she is moved out of ours).

  15. I LOVE IT!!! I really like the baby character prints. The color scheme is my fav and it's an added bonus you are adding characters that one would normally not find in a baby room. I absolutly love this!!!

  18. When I met my husband, back in high school, he had an entire room (across the hall from his bedroom, btw) dedicated to Star Wars. There was a space mural that took up an entire wall, a bed decked out in original 1970s Star Wars bedding, and shelves and shelves of Star Wars toys and action figures. Let's just say, I like your way MUCH better! When my son was born 10 years ago, a Star Wars nursery theme never even crossed my mind. Too bad since we would have already had everything necessary to decorate!
