Preschool, Pregnancy and Pool Days {and other words that start with 'P'}

Today's post is brought to you by the letter 'P'.  But not really.

So Kendall starts preschool in just over a month. I am excited, anxious, nervous {for her}, but most all I'm really really happy.  I know that she is going to thrive in a more structured environment with a schedule and someone else teaching her.  It's especially good that it's happening so soon to her becoming a Big Sister because preschool will be her special thing.  Something she'll have to look forward to {hopefully} and will get her out of the house at least two days a week.  She's so smart and I can't wait to see her grow.

With that being said, what the heck do I send her to school with?  We had to pay an extra $15 with the first month's tuition for school supplies so does that mean I don't need to send her with any?  I kinda started looking forward to stuffing her little Dora backpack full of colored pencils, a notepad and box of tissues but maybe I don't need to do that?  I have no idea.  Also do I just send her in tennis shoes the first day? I have a feeling that play clothes are going to be recommended so I don't think sending her in her cutest sundress and sandals is probably a good idea, right?  Help this preschool newbie mom out!

So we are nearing The End with this pregnancy business.  I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, 16 more days {but who's counting?}.  I'm still hoping that I somehow have him before then but at least I know that the longest I have to wait is just over two more weeks.  I cannot wait to see his little face, see what color hair he has {if any}, if he has the Dew little button nose and most of all I cannot wait for my Big Girl to meet her Baby Brother that we've been talking about for roughly 9 months.

The other day Jimmy and I were talking about being pregnant and we both agreed that I am not a pleasant pregnant lady and Jimmy asked if anyone actually liked being pregnant.  I know there are people who love it, I've read their blogs and I am one of them until about 28 weeks at which point I am d-o-n-e.  I shouldn't complain because I have relatively easy pregnancies however the last trimester is torture.  Things ache, body parts that you usually aren't aware of are suddenly screaming with pain, and the anticipation of your new arrival is just enough to send you into a frenzy.

Are you experiencing this blast of fall weather like we are in Ohio?  It's glorious, isn't it?  I mean the highs have been in the mid 70s which means our windows are wide open and the fresh air feels amazing.  It's like a pregnant woman's dream come true forecast.  We had a cookout with our friends yesterday and I even wore a jean jacket, it was glorious.  However, I am not ready for summer to be over.  Would you believe that the stores have Oktoberfest out already?  True story.  So the 70s can stay but the winter better not be soon behind because I still have a couple pool days left in my system.

Kendall's 3rd birthday party is this weekend.  I cannot believe this is the 3rd party I've planned for her, 3rd!  Crazy business.  This year I'm keeping it simple {hello I'm 100 months pregnant} and letting the fine folks at Chuck-E-Cheese do the dirty work, literally.  I am so happy we went with this decision mainly because it's Kendall's favorite place on Earth but also because of the easy factor.  I just show up 15 minutes prior to party time with cupcakes and they take care of the rest {even favor bags!!!}.  Surprisingly it wasn't that expensive either, I'm pretty sure I spend more between decorations, food, presents, etc throwing a party at home.   And?  I get to leave the mess there?  Win, win.

We're having our first homeownership issue this week, the plumbing in our kitchen sink is leaking into our garage.  As if having a broken dishwasher weren't complete torture {a new one is being delivered Thursday} but now we have a water leak.  My husband is pretty handy and can fix most things but plumbing is not one of them and so that sucks.  Why couldn't we have an electrical short or an outlet that needs replaced?  My dad is coming to take a look {love that he is so handy} and hopefully it's a simple fix.  I've never had to call a contractor for any home things so I don't even know where to begin.

We've been saying for months that Kendall's Big Sister gift was going to be the Pinky Pie Pony from Build-A-Bear.  Well, wouldn't you know, we went to "build" it this weekend and she's gone.  Discontinued.  #parentfail.  We did get a brochure all about Twilight Sparkle, the newest My Little Pony to join the Build-A-Bear team, so hopefully we can sell her on it before the 14th.  Meanwhile, she's still talking about Pinky Pie...

  1. My Kendall goes to daycare (we refer to it as school) and I send her with a little backpack every day. In the backpack is an extra pair of panties, a change of clothes, and sunscreen. Her school should have everything else you need! Also, I would send her in comfortable shoes. If she demands to wear sandals and you know she plays well in them, she will be fine!

  2. My mom is a preschool teacher, they ask that the kids come with a change of clothes (that is usually kept at school) and that they come dressed to play outdoors for at least a portion of the day. You'll probably want to volunteer to bring snacks and find out the list of allowable items. Do you have an orientation for her preschool? If so they will tell you other supplies to bring at that time. I know that my mom asks the kids to bring things throughout the year on an as needed basis, but she works for a church based preschool so things are a little different! Hope that helps a little bit :)

  3. We send Hunter to daycare (he's still too young for official preschool) but in the summer he's not allowed to wear sandals or any open toe shoes because they don't want their feet to get stepped on or hurt while playing outside. Not sure about the dress issue since obviously that doesn't apply to me.

I only like pregnancy during the 2nd trimester, the rest sucks.

  4. How exciting for Kendall to start preschool! I've been a follower of your blog for a long time and I think I've commented every now and then, but I wanted to say it feels like only yesterday that you announced being pregnant! How times files. I hope the next two weeks are easy on you!

  5. Connor has to have a complete change of clothes at school and they have a 'no sandals allowed' rule - mainly to prevent injuries, especially on the playground. They should give you a list of other things she needs, if there are any, but most likely she won't need much! :)

  6. My Little Mans 3rd birthday party is next weekend. I don't think I realized until now that our kids were that close in age. Oh and not that I am pregnant or am I going to be- ever again- but I too loved being prego until about 28 weeks. Then everything about it is terrible.

  7. I'm over in Indiana and have been LOVING this weather. Just loving it. Such a nice break from the god awful humidity that the midwest is always blessed with! Hopefully it stays like this for the remainder of your pregnancy at least, if not the rest of the summer.

  8. Lol she doesn't need anything for pre school hun, especially if you paid in advance for her supplies. If you want to pack something, pack a change of clothes. (Or two or three having worked in a preschool class room before), and maybe her lovey for naptime :) Good luck with the party and the pony, and you're almost there with the pregnancy!!!

  9. I didn't teach preschool , but I did teach kindergarten. Definitely send her in play clothes, and if she wears sandals, put her in socks. Nearly every school I worked in had a socks with sandals policy. I would recommend just sending her with tennis shoes, though. Preferably ones that velcro instead of tie (I tied probably 50 pairs of shoes per day in kindergarten lol) Send her with a change of clothes, and a blanket for nap time (if they do it there). I bought sunscreen for the kiddos, but not all teachers will do that. She will LOVE preschool!

  11. I love being pregnant but those last few weeks of pregnancy drag on! I can't believe Kendall is entering preschool already! I started reading your blog when you were pregnant with her!

  12. You probably don't need to send her with anything! They will tell you. I don't think you need to start packing backpacks till they're in Kindergarten :) Also, Eme wore her cute Keen Sneakers 99% of the time. We got scolded (gently) the day we wore TOMS because they were flipping off and not grippy enough. But anytime I've sent her in sandals it's been okay, too. Mostly though, the keen sneaks. I'm gonna get her another pair for this year too, they rock.

  13. I always sent Carter to school in shoes that allowed him to run around in. Depending on what they have on the play ground, if they wear sandals, they could risk getting mulch, rocks, sand, etc. stuck in their shoes. As far as school supplies, I don't remember sending anything with Carter, aside from his backpack. I did however buy basic school supplies and send them to school to help the teacher out (glue sticks, crayons, tissues, etc). OH, I just remembered, I did send an extra change of clothes and undies for those oops moments.

  14. How many hours a day & how many days a week is preschool? L just had to bring a change of clothes in his backpack in case of accidents. It's a good thing he never had one because those shorts i packed in august wouldn't have worked well in January ;)

  15. Our preschool is from 9-1 and I send lunch, a sippy of water, and a change of clothes head to toe. I also send a jacket if weather warrants. We aren't allowed to send our kids in sandals and my friend's preschool requires velcro shoes. You may still need to send something like tissues and hand sanitizer if the money for supplies is for other stuff-crayons, etc, but I would imagine they would let you know. Is their a parent's night or orientation?

  16. It definitely sounds like you've got a lot going on right now!!! That's so exciting that you'll meet your son in just a few days!

When you get a chance send me a direct link to your site so I can order that eye cream!

  17. All I put in my kids' backpacks for preschool was a change of clothes. They never needed anything else, and honestly, never had to change!
My baby is turning 2 on Saturday and I still don't have her gift. As for her party the following weekend? I have done nothing. Because I'm one of those miserable pregnant people that you speak of. I kind of blame it on throwing up and contracting everyday. The baby movements ARE pretty awesome, though.
Best of luck to you over the next 2 weeks!!!
