I'll Be There For You

I'll be there for you
(When the rain starts to pour)
I'll be there for you
(Like I've been there before)
I'll be there for you
('Cause you're there for me too)

Yes I did, I just quoted the Friends theme.

This weekend I had the chance to escape every day mom-life and retreat to the beach with my two best friends in the entire world.  I'd be lying if I said, "I couldn't wait to get back to my babies" because what I really wanted was one more day in paradise.

It's been three years since we last had a #BFFWeekend.  Three long years.  We've each added a new member to our families since the last time and now another one will be added to my friend's family in three short months.  In other words, it had been way too long since we took this time to ourselves.

We did the usual- mani's and pedi's, watched Magic Mike XXL, hit up Target, Old Navy & Ulta, sat INSIDE Starbucks and drank coffee, walked on the beach and collected seashells and talked about everything from our kids to our plans for the future and everything in between.  It was pure bliss.

Our conversations were not interrupted.  Our meals were not eaten cold.  We woke up when WE wanted.  We stayed up as late as WE wanted.  Our coffee was drank while still piping hot.  Our showers lasted as long as we damn well pleased.  In my opinion, it was the perfect Mother's Day gift.

Sure flowers are nice and so is a day at the spa but give me a weekend with my girlfriends over all of that.  I don't have a lot of friends but the ones I do have are quality.  We have been friends for over 28 years and damn if that doesn't make me feel old.  These girls have watched me transition through that awkward stage in high school.  They were there for me when I got my first apartment.  They both watched me marry the love of my life {and vice versa}.  There have been times where we haven't been as close and gone way too long without talking but every time we get together it's as though no time has passed at all.

Good friends are truly hard to come by. It takes a lot of love to keep a friendship alive after 28 years.  I'm so lucky that these two women are the ones I've chosen to do life with.  The two people who I can say anything in front of and never feel embarrassed or judged.  I get all of them and they get all of  me and we love each other for each and every messy part.

This weekend was exactly what I needed and I hope the next one is sooner than three years away.

  1. I have a girlfriends only weekend planned in July and I can't wait for it. I'm so excited to have one on one with friends, allowing me to not be Mommy for a couple days.

  2. I firmly believebwe moms need time away to remember who we are. Without our sanity every one would be miserable. It sounds like a fun trip and your views were breathtaking.
