We swam, we visited with friends, we grilled out, we swam some more, we went to Magic Mountain, we spent time with family and we swam some more. We all have great tans to prove it.
But you know what we don't have? A single picture.
That's right. We had all this fun this weekend and not a single picture to Instagram or share in this blog post.
It was kind of refreshing to just "shut down" this weekend. There were times that I thought, "OMG I have to get a picture of this". Especially when Kendall and her friend, Lily, were being the cutest two-year-old friends you ever did see, singing and dancing way past both of their bedtimes. I mean that needs documented, no? There were moments of "awe" and "OMG" and "kill me now" that were worthy of sharing but I just didn't. And you know what? It felt good. Amazing actually.
Sometimes this whole blogging/social media thing takes the fun out of life. Do you follow? I mean I love sharing things as much as the next girl but at the same time sometimes doing so almost feels like a job and when the weekend rolls around all I want to do is scream "T.G.I.F." with the rest of corporate America and quit "working" for two days.
I never think of blogging as my "job". It's something I love to do, a hobby, and when it starts to feel like a job is when it starts to not be fun. That's when I know it's time for a break.
So this morning, like every weekday morning, I opened my laptop {KP was still sleeping} and I stared at my inbox, full of sales and spam and I thought, "not today". Today I'm not going to get sucked into checking FB a million times to see what everyone else did this weekend. I'm not going to go through blogger during nap time, instead I'll spend it doing something useful like hand-washing a broken dishwasher full of dishes {more on that later}.
So, I hope you all had a great weekend. I promise I did even if I don't have anything to show you to prove it.
I feel the same way. I can't stop to take photos of every moment that happens and post it. It tends to take the fun out of the experiences for me.
ReplyDeleteyour weekend definitely sounds like one of the best kinds of a weekend to have! swimming & grilling - yay for summer!
ReplyDeleteThat's why I'm excited to go camping this weekend, no wifi and my cell won't get good enough service to post much while we are there. It's so refreshing to disconnect!
ReplyDeleteI'm with ya! Being constantly connected is exhausting. It's nice to give yourself a break and just live in the moment.
ReplyDeleteI feel the SAME way. It's so nice to turn it all off once in a while. Honestly, I should probably take those breaks more often!
ReplyDeleteI think it is so good to unplug and disconnect sometimes. We are so used to being constantly available, to even strangers now with social media. Its crazy. I have to remind my friends sometimes that I work and I'm a mom. I may not answer your texts/tweets within 30 seconds.
